Valentine’s Day
Valentine’s Day is a film that tries desperately to pander to as wide an audience as possible, while employing a mostly B-cast list and a couple of overly dramatized so-called “twists.” I have to admit- I was pleasantly surprised after seeing this movie that I was not forced to gouge my eyes out, but there’s just not enough here to justify the existence of the film in the first place. It is convinced, for some reason, that it breaks new ground, but …

The finale of the 2009-2010 season is here. Fortunately for fans of offense, the biggest game of the year for the biggest sport in the country will be played by, in the humble opinion of the SportsHuman, the two best quarterbacks in the league today. The accuracy, decision-making, strength, and leadership of both Peyton Manning and Drew Brees are absolutely off the charts, which will make Sunday’s game a fun one.
Both teams are built on terrific offense and decent defense. For the Colts, the passing game is almost everything. The …

Sherlock Holmes
Some films are discussed in the public forum simply as a result of their lead actors; Sherlock Holmes is a pretty good example. This is the film that shocked fans of the eternal Sherlock Holmes when they learned that their beloved detective was going to be played by playboy Robert Downey, Jr. Everyone who was not a Sherlock Holmes fan was thrilled to find their favorite Iron Man star back in another mega-role that would take advantage of his snappy one-lining talent. We at MovieHuman would like to suggest …

Daybreakers
If you have read any of our reviews lately, you would know that the word “entertaining” has been popping up a lot. After watching Daybreakers, the MovieHuman tried to come up with a more fitting adjective but was, unfortunately, unable to do so. The futuristic vampire flick is replete with excellent actors performing a middling script and a chain of deus ex machina moments to rival the final scene of The Hobbit—but the cool factor that the camera-work, leading man (Ethan Hawke), occasional startling moment, and general premise allow Daybreakers …

Avatar
James Cameron’s latest production is without a doubt one of the most entertaining films of the last ten years. The idea was fresh, the plot was engaging, and the execution, at least from a theatrics standpoint, was phenomenal. Rarely are we impressed by “special effects” and CGI characters these days—Avatar manages to impress with flying, alien, 3D colors.
The script was a bit lacking in substance, relying a little too heavily on the beauty on the screen to carry the film. The cast also has its ups and downs. Sigourney Weaver …

Up in the Air
A few words about “Up in the Air.” Great movie. A little bit too much fluff but not afraid to delve into the heavy stuff either, which is always a plus for me. I went in not expecting too much, maybe a kind of existential film about the transience of modern technological life. I was pretty much wrong.

This is a NewsHuman article by default, simply because it could not fit into any other category. In fact, it could be considered an anti-news piece, this bemoaning of our decade’s lack of news-worthiness.
The 00s, whose more formal name of “The Aughts” is known to only a precious few stuffy intellectuals like the NewsHuman, feel to many like an extension of the 90s. Ask most people and they will tell you that they feel like the 90s were just yesterday, when in fact we are as removed from 1999 as, …

Ok, so this is less of a set of a picks and more of a statement that THR has been on holiday hiatus. As such, we didn’t pick a winner for 15 of the 16 games this week. We will, however, tell you that we think that we have a prediction for tonight’s game… so at least it’s something.
Vikings over Bears
Pretty uninspired work this week. Our apologies.
