SportsHuman Picks Week 11

More picks for you… Now that we have an established theme of doing picks every weekend, we’ll keep track of what we’ve done so far, and how we’ve been doing (not well enough yet!). At some point, we might start picking before the Thursday game. For now, we’ll just let you watch that one yourself. Without further ado…

Cowboys over Redskins

Lions over Browns

This is the first time we have done this, so call it a test run–but don’t think that means we aren’t sincere. In the future, we’ll give some insights and some more in-depth looks at each game. For the inaugural Picks though, we’ll give you a little bit of here and there and then cut straight to the chase.

The Yankees Win; Philadelphia Loses

The “Why” of last night that you won’t hear from a Charlie-Manuel-loving sports media
The formidable lineup of Derek Jeter, Mark Teixeira, Alex Rodriguez, and, apparently, Hideki Matsui slugged their way to another World Series trophy last night with apparent ease against a meek Phillies team that didn’t seem equipped to put up a fight. Too much power in the batter’s box for the Yankees, and too much movement coming off the mound for the Phightin’s to handle. Or so it seemed. But don’t those Phillies have Chase Utley? Ryan Howard? …

NFL Power Rankings: Week 9, 2009

At the half-way mark for the NFL season… Here are your 2009 Power Rankings, Week 9. At some point, we will comment in a more in-depth manner for each decision, but for now, we’ll just tackle some of the bigger points in the intro…
The Saints’ defense is unworthy of the number 1 spot. Darren Sharper could probably singlehandedly stop the Kansas City Chiefs, but the rest of that D needs to wake up if they want to beat Indy in the Super Bowl that everyone thinks they’ll be playing in.

NFL Mock Draft ‘10

Update April 22, 2010 As of now, we think Bradford will be and should be the guy at number 1, but with an organization like St. Louis at the helm, who knows? The Donovan McNabb trade will have very large ramifications for the rest of the draft. Having rid themselves of a need, Washington should go OT now. The Eagles might now use their newly acquired high second-rounder for a safety, a typically undervalued draft position, and use the first-rounder on defensive end or cornerback. The 49ers will bolster that …

First off, we apologize for the sheer lack of content lately. We want to be updating a LOT more than we have been, but collegiate requirements have gotten in the way. All that aside… here's what we think about the World Series.
Cliff Lee and C.C. Sabathia present a pretty stellar Game 1 matchup. They have both been on point so far in the postseason. Beyond that, however, both pitching staffs (staves?) present a lot of questions. Pedro Martinez is starting game 2 for the Phils…  Yeah… Honestly, who knows what will happen when …

Well, a technical backup will make our predictions rather tardy. We can say we had the Phils in 6 and the Yanks in 6 (we did) but the Phils already won the first game, so it will seem a bit of a Johnny-come-lately call. Take it or leave it. Either way, here are our thoughts going forward:
The Dodgers can't lose tonight. With Cliff Lee starting game three and six, two losses would spell doom for LA. How to do this? Hard to give advice to the NL's best record holder, because their biggest …

Our Power Rankings didn't change much over the last few weeks, and if you kept an eye on things, you would know that we feel pretty strongly about the talent on the Yankees' roster. However, in a playoff type series, the Cardinals' pitching staff makes them almost as formidable. We see a Cardinals-Yankees series as very likely, and don't be surprised if Carpenter and Wainwright can pull off two back to back wins to start of the World Series. But that is in the future… for now we'll predict:

Cardinals over …

The Tigers and Twins are still locked in a battle for a trip to the playoffs. That's about as far as the exciting races go, unless you count the race for the NL West crown, both of whose contenders will be going to the postseason either way. Heading into October, the Yankees, Angels, and Cards are the best teams in baseball. Powerhouses like the Phillies and Dodgers need to get their acts together…

1. Yankees: The Yankees are still the dominant team in the Major Leagues right now. They stuck it to …

The playoff races are going down to wire… for some divisions. Most of baseball's contenders have wrapped it up, cementing the top tier teams. The AL Central and NL West remain moderately contentious.

1. Yankees: The Yankees are still the dominant team in the Major Leagues right now. They stuck it to Boston to prove who is the class of the AL East, and the team is really starting to play up to its talent. Tex and Sabathia are showing why they get paid so much, and the rest of the team is …
