MLB Power Rankings Week 23

If you are looking for new content… well I didn't add much. The playoffs are shaping up to be interesting, but these last few weeks are shaping up to be rather meaningless.

1. Yankees: The Yankees are still the dominant team in the Major Leagues right now. They stuck it to Boston to prove who is the class of the AL East, and the team is really starting to play up to its talent. Tex and Sabathia are showing why they get paid so much, and the rest of the team is contributing in a way that makes it seem like the Yankees always know how to win. From top to bottom, lineup, rotation, and bullpen, the Yankees have the firepower to go the distance.

2. Angels: Kendry Morales and Bobby Abreu continue to play really, REALLY well for LA's other team. The Angels have started to pick up momentum and it doesn't look like they will slow down any time soon. The management deserves a lot of credit. The Angels are quickly proving themselves as the best team in SoCal. I know we haven't said much else about either of the top 2 teams lately, but what else is there to say? They will both be going to the playoffs… now we wait.

3. Cardinals: Matt Holliday was hot when he was traded, and leaving Oakland for St. Louis only added fuel to his fire. He has been stellar with the Cardinals, giving the team an added offensive dimension that takes some pressure off of Albert, who has started to get hot again. They are well-built for October. Pujols is back in the swing of things, leading the NL in homers with ease and building the batting average backup.

4. Dodgers: All of the AL West teams have easy schedules to finish out the season, but LA ends with an intriguing matchup against Colorado, a team that doesn't trail by much. If the Rox stay hot and the Dodgers stay mediocre, that could spell a very important series come the first days of October.

5. Red Sox: A string of wins has the Sox firmly in control of the AL Wild Card. The postseason contenders are pretty much set at this point, and Boston has to be thrilled with Dice-K's performance in his first game back. He will be an important piece of the postseason puzzle.

6. Phillies: The Phils had the good fortune of being able to face the Nationals for two series while trying to find their offensive stroke again. Brad Lidge was pulled for failing consistently as a closer, but Ryan Madson didn't do much better, and now Charlie is back to letting Lidge attempt to work things out. Fortunately for Philly, the division lead is sound enough to tinker with Lidge until the postseason.

7. Rangers: Between Josh Hamilton, Ian Kinsler, Nelson Cruz, Andruw Jones and Michael Young, there is a pretty good chance that someone is going yard every game. Too bad they play in the same division as the Angels. Unfortunately for Texas, the playoffs might just be a Red Sox team too far.

8. Tigers: With Minnesota headed for a .500 season and yet also a second-place finish in the AL Central, the Tigers pretty much have this one locked up. You can attribute it to an unflagging offense that has the ability to score no matter who is at the plate. Still, they probably won't last long in the postseason.

9. Rockies: The Rox have started to nail down that Wild Card spot, and in the process they have actually gotten within striking distance of the elusive Dodgers, a team that isn't struggling, but isn't dominating like they were. The NL West remains somewhat intriguing, which is good, because things are pretty set in stone everywhere else.

10. Giants: Only 1 team makes the Wild Card. The Giants have the talent to win a short series, but their playoff chances are dimming with every Colorado win. Still, they aren't out of the picture yet, and make up one half of really the only interesting September story left.
