More Thoughts

Well, a technical backup will make our predictions rather tardy. We can say we had the Phils in 6 and the Yanks in 6 (we did) but the Phils already won the first game, so it will seem a bit of a Johnny-come-lately call. Take it or leave it. Either way, here are our thoughts going forward:

The Dodgers can't lose tonight. With Cliff Lee starting game three and six, two losses would spell doom for LA. How to do this? Hard to give advice to the NL's best record holder, because their biggest problem last night was clutch hitting. They were a bad fielding play away from being down a whole lot more, and couldnt pull off the win when they needed to. All those regular season clutch moments might regress back to the mean here in the postseason. Watch out for the Dodgers' starters over these next few games though–the Phillies have had trouble in the past, and pitching might be able to hold Philadelphia down enough while LA finds its swing.

The Yankees will win if they play to their talent level, but that's not a guarantee (see: Mark Teixeira over the first month of the season/various other players at various slump points all year). However, they have been good lately, and if they pitch like they can, it will spell trouble for the Angels, whose pitching is a slight question mark, especially regarding the pen. Still, the Angels can win with some well timed hits because we think these will all be close games–NY really hasn't dominated in the postseason like you might think. A few big hits have put them over the top, but some of those hits could just as easily go to the scrappy Angels.

In short, none of these teams is vastly better than the other. We'd be surprised by any blowouts.
