Weekend Best Bets: April 24

23 April 2009 20 views One Comment

Look no further for info and picks from this weekend's sports (and by sports we mean baseball and football) festivities. Every week, the Best Bet will tell you what to watch and who to put your money on, so check back Thursdays (or sometimes Fridays if we get lazy) before you make your weekend plans!

MLB

Friday: Phillies vs. Marlins… The struggling Brett Myers faces the basically awesome Josh Johnson. What makes this an interesting matchup? The Marlins have lost several in a row to good pitching, and Brett Myers can be a good pitcher. We will see what happens, but the Marlins will probably work the long ball enough in this one and avoid the upset.

OUR MONEY IS ON THE MARLINS.

Saturday: Yankees vs. Red Sox… Burnett faces Beckett at Fenway. The Yankees have been good lately. Better than the Sox. This will be a great battle, but I think the Sox are starting to find some traction.

OUR MONEY IS ON THE RED SOX.

Sunday: Mariners vs. Angels… Jarrod faces Jared. Cool. The Angels have been disappointing so far, and the Mariners have been surprisingly good. Both Washburn and Weaver have terrific ERAs up to this point in the season, but it is questionable whether they will be able to hold on to sub-3 earned run averages for much longer. The Mariners have the firepower to stick it to Los Angeles at home, and the defense to back them up.

OUR MONEY IS ON THE MARINERS.

NFL

NFL DRAFT WEEKEND! Sweet. The only exciting NFL weekend from February to August, and I hope you watch. We have done a lot of work preparing you for it. 4:00 Saturday.
