MLB AwardWatch Week 4

4 May 2009 111 views No Comment

Sorry, but the SportsHuman took a week off. We know you are happy to have us back–here are your AwardWatch–ees for Week 6

NL:
MVP: Albert Pujols… He is awesome. 'nuff said. Okay, we will say just a little more. Pujols has the Cardinals winning like it is their job. It kind of is, so kudos to him for doing it. He hits home runs, he hits singles and doubles, he wins gold gloves. Pujols is unstoppable right now.

Cy Young: Johan Santana… Johan has been the only good thing about the otherwise awful rotation in Flushing. If anything holds him back, it will be his team's poor performance backing him up–which brings us too another point. Pitching wins are really a stupid stat, and you shouldn't pay attention to them.

ROY: Dexter FolwerJordan Schafer (and the rest of his team) have definitely cooled off after a hot start. Colby Rasmus is looking alright in the Gateway City, but he has the best lineup protection in baseball–walk him and you have to face Ryan Ludwick and Albert Pujols. He steals bases, which complements a mediocre batting averages and, for now, pushes him ahead of other candidates.

AL:
MVP: Kevin Youkilis His ability to hit with such balance has made Sox fans at least a little comfortable with the fact that David Ortiz appears to have lost it.

Cy Young: Zack Greinke… The Kansas City pitcher gave up some earned runs. Finally. Greinke is still the best in baseball.

ROY: Ricky Romero… His pitching has been phenomenal, and the Jays are lucky to have not one, but two men on the mound that can handle opposing hitters. This one happens to be a rookie, which makes it all the more impressive.
