MLB AwardWatch Week 6

Sorry, but the SportsHuman took a week off. We know you are happy to have us back–here are your AwardWatchees for Week 6

NL:
MVP: Raúl Ibañez… At least for now, Ibañez is outpacing even Albert Pujols with his powerful, high-average hitting. He has led Philadelphia on a 4-game winning streak (Pujols and Co. have dropped several games recently) and had 3 home runs on Saturday. It is rather impressive when a team has an ERA at the bottom of the league and is still a division contender; Raúl Ibañez is the reason why. It makes you wonder… does anyone in Philly miss Pat Burrell?

Cy Young: Johan Santana… Johan has been the only good thing about the otherwise awful rotation in Flushing. If anything holds him back, it will be his team's poor performance backing him up–which brings us too another point. Pitching wins are really a stupid stat, and you shouldn't pay attention to them.

ROY: Dexter FolwerJordan Schafer (and the rest of his team) have definitely cooled off after a hot start. Colby Rasmus is looking alright in the Gateway City, but he has the best lineup protection in baseball–walk him and you have to face Ryan Ludwick and Albert Pujols. Fowler steals bases, which complements a mediocre batting averages and, for now, pushes him ahead of other candidates.

AL:

MVP: Evan Longoria Victor Martinez and Adam Jones really merit consideration, but their teams' poor play won't garner them much attention in the MVP race. Evan Longoria has willed the Rays to a .500 record, and things are promising for a long future in Tampa.

Cy Young: Zack Greinke… The Kansas City pitcher gave up some earned runs. Finally. Greinke is still the best in baseball.

ROY: Elvis Andrus… Ricky Romero is hurt, so we will hold judgement on his situation. Andrus is batting in the .270s and looking helpful down in the Lone Star state and he looks like the only viable, healthy ROY candidate right now.
